Environment
Oman’s diverse landscape features a central desert plain framed by rugged mountains to the north and south. The central region experiences hot, arid conditions that create the stunning yet challenging backdrop for the Oman Desert Marathon. This extraordinary race takes you through the breathtaking wilderness of the Omani Desert, where every step connects you with one of nature’s most pristine environments.
Our commitment to environmental protection extends beyond the race itself. We work tirelessly to preserve the desert’s delicate ecosystem, safeguarding both wildlife and native vegetation. Through continuously evolving conservation policies, we strive to ensure this magnificent landscape remains untouched for future generations.
As a participant, you play a vital role in this mission. Please embrace responsible running practices: carry all waste to designated checkpoints for proper disposal, leave unique rock formations undisturbed in their natural locations, and maintain respectful distances from any wildlife you encounter. Remember, you are a guest in their home—honor their space and natural behaviors.
Water Conservation
Water stands among Earth’s most precious resources, and nowhere is this truth more evident than in desert environments. For desert communities, water conservation represents both survival and stewardship. We ask all participants to maintain this mindful perspective throughout the race, especially considering the logistical challenges of water transportation in remote desert locations.
While long, relaxing showers might feel appealing after a challenging day, please remember that such luxuries carry greater significance in water-scarce environments. Your conscious water use reflects respect for both the local community and the desert ecosystem that hosts our event.
Water Bottles
We strongly encourage the use of reusable water bottles throughout the event. Disposable bottles abandoned in the desert create lasting environmental damage, as plastic waste can persist for centuries before decomposing. Any competitor found discarding plastic bottles will face penalties and potential race disqualification. This environmental standard applies equally to all participants and organizers.
