About the Race
The Oman Desert Marathon has always been more than just a race — it’s a celebration of Oman’s natural beauty and a gathering of people who share a deep love for this remarkable country. This night race is built on that same spirit, and on a firm commitment: to honour the environment we run through, not burden it.
A portion of every registration fee is donated directly to the Environment Society of Oman (ESO) — the only non-profit organisation in Oman dedicated exclusively to conserving the country’s natural environment. Founded in 2004, ESO protects sea turtles, whales and dolphins, raptors, frankincense trees, and the wider biodiversity that makes Oman one of the most remarkable natural environments on Earth. By running with us, you are actively supporting that mission.

Why No T-Shirts, No Medals?
You won’t find a finisher t-shirt or medal at this finish line — and that’s intentional.
Mass-produced t-shirts and plastic-and-metal medals are among the most wasteful traditions in recreational sport. Most end up forgotten in a drawer or discarded within months. We’d rather put that resource where it genuinely counts: into the landscapes and wildlife that make running in Oman so extraordinary in the first place.
The best souvenir of this race is the memory of running under a desert sky full of stars. That’s something no t-shirt can replicate — and nothing that ends up in a landfill.
Our Commitment to the Environment
We believe a race in nature should leave nature exactly as it was — or better. That means no single-use plastic, no unnecessary waste, and no disposable cups on the course.
On the course, everyone plays their part:
- A reusable water bottle is mandatory equipment — please bring your own.
- Refill stations are available at the start/finish line and at the 2.5 KM mark.
- No plastic cups or disposable packaging anywhere on the route.
- Leave the desert exactly as you found it.
